We certainly have a very complicated relationship when it comes down to our food consumption and associated climatic changes. The global food industry requires a significant amount of energy resources, transport, and storage costs to deliver food quite literally to our doorsteps. This can lead to environmental pollution, emission of greenhouse gases and production of more wastage in the process. Here is a list of the food products you should be incorporating into your daily life to reduce your carbon footprint.

Contents
1. Lentils and Beans2. Figs3. Local, Seasonal Fish4. Organic Fruits and Vegetables5. Fair Trade Coffee and Tea Brands

1. Lentils and Beans

Originating from the legume family, lentils and beans are the ultimate superfoods. Not only are these grains jam-packed with tons of protein and fiber content, but they are also surprisingly environment-friendly as well. Not only do they have a lower carbon and water footprint, planting and harvesting them is also super easy, with the added advantage of avoiding harmful insecticides and pesticides. If you have picky eaters, you can easily incorporate them in soups, salads and rice bowls. Rice with beans/legumes makes for the ultimate comfort food.

2. Figs

Figs, often misunderstood for fruit are actually flowers. With over 750 species of figs worldwide, they often act as lynchpins in the environment, that is, because of their year-round availability, they are a crucial source of nutrition for different animals. Figs are also considered a popular delicacy in most Middle Eastern cuisines, they are super healthy and can be incorporated in a number of desserts.

3. Local, Seasonal Fish

Today, overfishing accounts for most of the damage that has been done to the oceans rather than climatic change. The countries that have failed to regulate and restrict their fishing spree to some seasons are suffering the most. Many fish species tend to reproduce through certain periods of the year and their breeding cycle can stretch up to months, that’s why we encourage sustainable fishing to harbor a sustainable fishery industry. Try to buy only local fish that’s in season from the authentic farmers market or fish market that is able to give you the proper origin of the fish’s capture.

4. Organic Fruits and Vegetables

Much emphasis has been put towards the benefits of incorporating organic fruits and vegetables instead of other non-organic food items. Organic farming is just so much better for the environment, and it helps improve soil turnover and minimizes water consumption. It sustains the ecosystem by providing a pollination ground for various insect species. It also uses fewer chemicals and pesticides during the harvest which is why it is so much better for you in the long run. Apart from that, organic foodstuff is as healthy and delicious as it gets.

5. Fair Trade Coffee and Tea Brands

Coffee and tea are some of the most highly consumed beverages across the globe, which is why we should aim to buy it from local companies and brands that are working towards more sustainable ways of growing them without increasing deforestation and carbon emissions.

Also, use a trash removal service Austin TX to remove junk and other stuff in your house. They recycle most of the things so it helps the environment hugely. You can compare prices of various Austin junk removal service before choosing one.

It’s not entirely impossible to integrate your food choices with the longevity of your environment. Sustained food consumerism, when practiced across widespread populations has the ability to shift the entire paradigm.
